Beaches of Sicily

Sicily North area

Sicily boasts a large number of beautiful bathing beaches, some very exploited for tourism, other free and almost unspoilt located both on the island itself and on the islands of the various archipelagos which belong to the region. In the north of the island we find the coasts included in the provinces of Trapani, Palermo, Messina and Catania, while in the south there are those in the provinces of Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Ragusa and Siracusa.

Trapani

lido-burroneIn the province of Trapani there is the island of Favignana, with the beautiful beach Lido Burrone: a white sand bathed by a turquoise sea from shallow water, with equipped bathing establishments that do not spoil the charm of the pristine nature of the place.

Between two natural reserves, the beach of San Vito lo Capo is a very long and large coastline with charming natural landscape. The sand is white and the sea clean and turquoise, the beach resorts offer many amenities and the place is popular with water sports enthusiasts.

Palermo

In the province of Palermo, more precisely in the Gulf of Castellammare, is located the beautiful beach Magaggiari of Cinisi, long and wide, made of fine sand in front of a beautiful crystal clear sea. On the right stands the figure of Mulinazzo Tower, dating back to the sixteenth century. The beach is usually uncrowded, ideal for absolute relaxing.spiaggia-magaggiari

At 70 kilometers from Palermo rises the famous town of Cefalù, one of the most important seaside resorts of Sicily.

The Pollina beach is one of the most beautiful in the area, 11 kilometers from Cefalù: the sand and gravel beach is very crowded in the summer and has several bathing establishments, the sea is wonderful and there are several hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Messina

The gorgeous Aeolian Islands, Tyrrhenian jewelry, belong to the province of Messina. On the island of Vulcano are situated the beautiful Black beaches, of volcanic origin. The dark sand is surrounded by vegetation and the sea is calm, flat and with shallow water. The coast is often crowded and the bathing establishments provide sunbeds and umbrellas to tourists.

Nera the sun-drenched city of Taormina there is the Isola Bella beach, a one kilometer long stretch of gravel, dominated by an ancient castle.

The sea is visola-bella-taorminaery blue, the beach is easily accessible and is very well equipped.

Beaches in Catania.

In Catania there is the beach of the city, the Plaia of Catania, a wide coastal strip of compact sand that overlooks a beautiful sea from shallow water. There are many free areas managed by the municipality, but also private bathing establishments; the area is full of hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Sicily South area

Beaches in Agrigento.

In the province of Agrigento lies the charming beach Scala dei Turchi of Realmonte, a coastline flanked by a white cliff on which the atmospheric agents have carved a natural staircase declining to the sea. The sand is golden and the sea is turquoise and crystal clear.

On the island of Lampedusa there is the beautiful Cala Croce, an inlet with two white sandy beaches overlooking the clear sea of Lampedusa.

Situated within a natural reserve, the Torre Salsa beach of Siculiana offers to tourists a golden sandy shoreline about 6 km long, surrounded by thick vegetation and limestone cliffs. A place full of colors and nature in front of a splendid and transparent sea.

Beaches in Caltanissetta

In the province of Caltanissetta it is worthy to mention the beach Falconara di Butera, near Licata. Above the sandy coastline stands the castle of Falconara, the sea is crystal clear and the beach is entirely free.

Ragusa’s Beaches.

The Sampieri beach of Scicli in the province of Ragusa is one of the few stretches of unspoilt coastline of the province. The characteristic vegetation and the golden sand give an exotic touch to this totally free beach that borders a blue and clean sea.

More exploited for tourism is the beach of Santa Maria di Focallo in Ispica, town in province of Ragusa about 9 kilometers from the city. The ample sandy coastline hosts every summer a large number of bathers. There are bathing establishments and other services for tourists. Santa Maria di Focallo obtained the Blue Flag in 2011, but the sea is often rough.

Beaches of Syracuse.

spiaggia-san-lorenzoNear Noto, in the province of Syracuse, there is the beach San Lorenzo, a corner of paradise made of white sand and turquoise sea. The coastline is equipped with numerous bathing establishments.

Near the town of Avola is instead located the Pantanello beach, a sandy stretch characterized by the presence of many agave plants, as well as clean sea and shallow water. In summer the place is very popular, the beach is free but in the surrounding areas there are several services for tourists.
