It is a wonderful English garden, one of the most beautiful, special and romantic in the world, Gelasio Caetani began it in 1921 right in the area where there is the now missing ancient medieval town of Ninfa, in fact today there are only some ruins.

History of Garden Of Ninfa

It is a very special garden that was made just on the ruins of the ancient town of Ninfa.

It is very likely that the country of Ninfa owes its name to a temple of the classical age dedicated to the Nymphs which is located right on an islet of the small lake.

From the fourteenth century onwards, over the centuries the city of Ninfa passed from hand to hand to various members of the Caetani family.

But it was only in 1921 that Gelasio Caetani began a reclamation of the swamplands and the restoration of some ruins (in particular the tower and the city hall) to make the area a summer residence.

The garden in the years was always looked after by the Caetani family until the last heir Lelia, the latter established the Foundation Roffredo Caetani di Sermoneta and when she died in 1977 without heirs, she left to the foundation the Sermoneta castle and even the garden.

Still today this foundation takes care of the Garden of Ninfa.
