Lake Laceno

Lake Laceno is in Campania, in the hamlet of the same name, Laceno, of Bagnoli Irpino, a town in the province of Avellino. Laceno is located at 1050 meters above sea level, at the foot of Cervialto Mount.

 

History

The first ski lifts on Laceno were work of the engineer Giannoni in 1972, however later, in 1975, the first panoramic chairlifts were inaugurated. And since then Laceno was not just a summer destination but also a famous ski resort in the winter.

The tourism boom was in 70s-80s years, with sports and cultural events. Further there were also organized: festivals, parties and automotive raid organized by ACI, and international events like the  Laceno d’Oro. While in the 90s there was a crisis due to several problems.

But in the 2000s, the Laceno recovered and tourism increased again. Since 2008 there have been many works to raise the landscaping and sports offer. When in 2010 was installed an artificial snow machine for ski slopes, there was a further growth in tourism.

 

Location and characteristics

LacenoThe plateau of Laceno is located at 1050 meters from the town of Bagnoli Irpino, right in the heart of Picentini Mounts. The landscape that the eyes of tourists can admire is really wonderful and rich in forests, mountain ranges, rivers and even a picturesque lake, precisely the Lake Laceno. The ski tracks are 16 km long, and the ski area ranges from 1100 to 1700 m.

On Laceno it is located one of the most important and famous cavity of Campania, the Caves of Caliendo.

Around Lake Laceno there are peaks highest than 1500 m, with a landscape rich in flora and fauna. On the plateau you can find villas, residences and other facilities for tourists, such as restaurants that offer the rich culinary tradition full of local products.

Typical products very popular in the area are: the black truffle from Bagnoli Irpino, the polished Montella chestnut, mushrooms, the provolone podolico and the pecorino from Bagnoli.

For tourists the choice is vast: playground for children, organized excursions and mountain bike itineraries, horse riding facilities, tennis courts, soccer fields.
