Pisa: the miracles of a square
Pisa undoubtedly occupies a special role in terms of architecture, culture and history.
Inside one of the most important urban centers of Tuscany. One of its most important aspects is represented by the squares, scattered in different neighborhoods involving the entire perimeter of the city.
Starting from the District of San Francesco, we find some buildings of tourist interest placed directly inside the ancient city. Here the young people meet each other or evenings of folklore and music take place for all those who enjoy this charming and elegant setting.
In particular, Piazza del Carmine is one of the most popular in the neighborhood, where the narrow dimensions are compensated by ecclesiastical architecture that wrote the history of the place in the first decades of the Italian Middle Ages.
Returning to the center of Pisa.
Undoubtedly the Piazza dei Miracoli is one of the more artistic and monumental place of the town.
Having been ascribed to the list of UNESCO World Heritage because of works of art in it.
Freely passable, Piazza dei Miracoli consists of buildings born in Etruscan-Roman age, where cathedrals and churches come in succession and developed especially during the supremacy of Medici.
The monuments in this square were finally undergoing to changes in different historical periods, elaborating the dispositions of baptisteries, bell towers and churches according to a clear method, able to draw on some astrological and religious schemes of the period.
The Baptistery of San Giovanni Battista also complete the panoramic view of the square, having become one of the symbols of Pisa along with the famous Tower and the Monumental Cemetery, with frescoes and gothic buildings that make Pisa a real place of convergence of different streams of art, making it a “city of miracles.”
