What to see in Salerno<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Minerva Garden and the Salernitan Medical School<\/strong><\/p>\n

The famous saying equivalent to a remedy for fever ‘Lane, milk, bed: warm, light food and rest’, was born in the Medical School of Salerno. Historically it is the first university of medicine in Europe.<\/p>\n

At the Minerva Garden, the Salernitana Medical School taught students how to use officinal herbs. The Giardino della Minerva is considered to be the first botanical garden in Europe.<\/p>\n

There is a herbal tea shop that has tables where you can consume what you take with a panoramic view of the Gulf of Salerno.<\/p>\n

Castle of Arechi<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"The Lombard prince Arechi II was the one who chose to transfer the capital of the Duchy from Benevento to Salerno.<\/p>\n

To make the city unassailable he had a castle built within the strengthened walls. This place is unique in Italy, and therefore an unmissable destination to visit in the city.<\/p>\n

Today there is a medieval museum that shows visitors the weapons, ceramics and coins that tell both the history of the city and ancient mysteries related to it.<\/p>\n

The crypt inside the Cathedral houses the remains of St. Matthew, who is one of the four evangelists as well as the Patron Saint of the city of Salerno.<\/p>\n

Rebuilt over the years is today an example of Baroque style, and presents frescoes with scenes from the Gospel of Matthew, and also some episodes that refer entirely to the history of the city.<\/p>\n

Lungomare Trieste<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the most beautiful in Italy, it is made up of 3 parallel avenues that run through a precise area around the historic center, and has different types of trees (palms, pines and tamarisks).<\/p>\n

At the end of this path there is Santa Teresa, a municipal villa that hosts the Luci d’Artista event, a period in which it turns into a real enchanted garden.<\/p>\n

The historic center will drop you in a certain way into the fabulous history of this city, and will connect you to the main sights of Salerno.<\/p>\n
