The Monster Park<\/strong> also called Sacred Wood and Wonderland Villa<\/strong>, is located in Lazio, specifically in Bomarzo in Garden locality, in the province of Viterbo. This is located on the slopes of a natural amphitheater at the foot of Cimino Mount, and is truly spectacular and unique in the world, an important stage to visit in Lazio.<\/p>\n

History<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prince Pier Francesco Orsini called Vicino Orsini, commissioned, in 1547, to the architect Pirro Ligorio the project of the Monster Park. In this the Italian gardens were built with perspective and geometric coherence; inside there are fountains adorned with water games, obelisks, large terraces and many Mannerism sculptures.<\/p>\n

\"sacro-bosco-bomarzo-2\"While the prince made a bizarre forest, that he precisely called Sacred Wood, dedicated to his wife, Giulia Farnese. In this case, there was no geometric consistency between the sculptures because they were carved on the rocks that emerged from the ground. Subjects are various: dragons and various monsters, mythological figures and exotic animals. Furthermore there are also architectural structures such as the leaning house, and the “Temple” that actually was built 20 years later in honor of the second wife of the prince, the princess Giulia Farnese.<\/p>\n

When the last prince Orsini died in 1585, the wonderful Park was abandoned and left to itself until in the second half of ‘900 it was finally recovered by Bettini, Giancarlo and Tina Severi. They provided to the restoration of the Monster Park, and after death they both were buried right in the temple, where perhaps lies the second wife of Orsini, Princess Farnese.<\/p>\n

Mystery<\/strong><\/p>\n

In fact on various structures and monuments there are inscriptions that leave visitors astonished. Over the years, both scientists and historians, and even philologists, have tried to give an explanation to this kind of “labyrinth of symbols”. Some of them seem now to have some kind of interpretation, however, there isn’t a real general scheme of interpretation.<\/p>\n

In short, for those who love mysteries and enigmas or simply love nature and art, this is definitely a very interesting and important Italian stage.<\/p>\n
